# AgentIndex

AgentIndex is a web directory for AI agents, MCP servers, and IDE rules files such as .cursorrules for Cursor and Windsurf. Visitors can browse tools by category, view trending and new listings, read best-of lists, and compare tools. A companion GitHub repository, awesome-cursor-rules, is maintained by AgentIndex.app and lists curated rules and MCP server configs.

## What It Is

AgentIndex is a curated, searchable catalog of open-source developer tools for building with AI agents. Listings are organized into categories such as Code Assistant, Workflow Automation, RAG / Knowledge Base, Multi-Agent, Browser Automation, and MCP Servers. The site also publishes guides and best-by-use-case lists that compare tools by stars, licence, commit activity, and install commands. Users can submit their own tools for listing.

## Searching from Your Agent or Terminal

AgentIndex exposes a remote MCP server that requires no API key, so MCP clients such as Claude Code and Cursor can query the directory directly. The README lists these tools: search_tools, get_tool_detail, list_categories, get_trending, and submit_tool. It is listed on the official MCP Registry and on Smithery. A CLI, run via npx, supports finding tools, viewing a tool's details, and listing categories without installation.

## The Companion Rules List

The awesome-cursor-rules repository collects .cursorrules snippets for areas such as SwiftUI, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and Python, along with MCP server configuration examples for PostgreSQL and Git. It is released under CC0-1.0.
