# Beautiful Rust

> A Claude Code plugin with a rust-best-practices skill that teaches Claude to write idiomatic, robust, maintainable Rust.

Beautiful Rust is an MIT-licensed Claude Code plugin by morganlinton that bundles a single skill, `rust-best-practices`. It loads automatically when a task involves Rust, cargo, crates, the borrow checker, clippy, or `.rs` files, and guides Claude toward idiomatic Rust. The latest listed release is v1.1.0.

## What It Is

Beautiful Rust is a coding-guidance skill packaged as a Claude Code plugin and as a skill folder that can be uploaded to claude.ai. Its guidance is distilled from the Google Rust Style Guide, the Rust API Guidelines, Effective Rust, Rust Design Patterns, and the Microsoft Pragmatic Rust Guidelines. A condensed digest of each source is bundled so Claude can consult the original reasoning, and where the sources disagree the skill picks a side and explains why.

## What the Skill Covers

The main SKILL.md is organized for scanning while coding. Its topics include:

- Mindset, and a pre-handback checklist covering fmt, clippy with `-D warnings`, test, and doc.
- Ownership and borrowing, types and API design, and errors and panics.
- Everyday idioms, concurrency and async, and unsafe and FFI.
- Crates, modules, and dependencies.
- Documentation, tests, and performance.
- A final checklist.

## Setup Path

Install in Claude Code with `claude plugin install` from the repo's own marketplace, or with the `/plugin` commands inside a session. A project scope option enables it for a repository's collaborators. The plugin can also be tried for a single session from a cloned directory. For claude.ai, the skill folder is zipped and uploaded under Skills, which requires code execution to be enabled. The skill can be invoked explicitly as `/beautiful-rust:rust-best-practices`, though it normally triggers on its own.

## Testing

The repo includes three eval cases for `claude plugin eval`: a library API design task, an application CLI task, and a module refactor. The README reports that in its last comparison the skill passed 29 of 30 assertions versus 24 of 30 without it, at roughly a third more tokens per task.

- Guidance distilled from five Rust style and design sources
- Bundled reference digests for each source
- Pre-handback checklist with fmt, clippy -D warnings, test, and doc
- Coverage of ownership, API design, errors, concurrency, unsafe/FFI, and performance
- Explicit invocation via /beautiful-rust:rust-best-practices
- Eval cases runnable with claude plugin eval
- Installable in Claude Code or uploadable to claude.ai as a skill zip
