# Claude Code Game Studios

> An open-source template that turns a Claude Code session into a coordinated game development studio with specialized agents, slash-command skills, hooks, and rules.

Claude Code Game Studios is an MIT-licensed template maintained by Donchitos that structures a Claude Code session like a game studio. It provides 49 specialized agents, 74 slash-command skills, hooks, path-scoped rules, and document templates covering design, programming, art, audio, narrative, QA, and production. The latest listed release is v1.2.0.

## What It Is

The project is a clone-and-use template for solo developers or small teams building games with Claude Code. Instead of a single general-purpose chat, agents are organized into three tiers: directors, department leads, and specialists, each with defined responsibilities, escalation paths, and quality gates. Engine-specific agent sets are included for Godot 4, Unity, and Unreal Engine 5.

## Workflow and Commands

Users clone the repository, open Claude Code at the project root, and run `/start`, which asks where the project stands and routes to the right workflow. Skills cover onboarding, brainstorming, system and UX design, architecture decisions, epics and stories, sprint planning, code and design review, QA and testing, bug triage, release checklists, patch notes, and multi-agent team orchestration such as `/team-combat` or `/team-release`. The workflow is collaborative: agents ask questions, present options, draft work, and wait for user approval before writing.

## Configuration and Safety

A `project.yaml` file controls engine, naming conventions, and a `modes.rigor` setting (`minimal`, `standard`, or `full`) that tunes GDD requirements, documentation density, QA evidence, review depth, and team size. Hooks validate commits, pushes, asset files, design-doc reads and writes, and keep an agent audit trail. Path-scoped rules enforce standards for gameplay, core, AI, networking, UI, shaders, data, and test files. The README states a story that changes visible output is not closed until the game is launched and a screenshot is retained as evidence.

## Setup Path

Prerequisites are Git, Claude Code, Python 3, and Bash, with jq recommended. Hooks are tested on Windows with Git Bash, macOS, and Linux, though the notification hook uses Windows toast notifications only. A `studio-tests/` folder and `/skill-test` commands let users check customized skills and agents.
