# evepad

evepad is an open-source, community-built local IDE designed specifically for building and shipping eve agents on Vercel. It runs via `npx evepad` and opens a local dashboard at `http://localhost:4680`, requiring only Node 24+ and macOS. ## What It Is

evepad describes itself as "the missing IDE to build and ship eve agents." ## How the Build Loop Works

The tool orchestrates several underlying CLIs automatically, falling back to `npx` when they aren't installed:

- **Vercel CLI** — handles sign-in, project linking, and environment variable pulls
- **eve CLI** — scaffolds agents, runs the dev server, and manages channels and tools
- **OpenCode** — powers the Build chat interface, downloaded once on first run (~44MB) and version-locked to the app

The Build surface (`/build`) lets developers chat with a coding agent scoped to their local checkout, alongside a live graph of tools, schedules, channels, and connections. Bash calls made during chat ask for in-chat approval before executing.

## The Four Main Surfaces

evepad organizes its UI into four distinct areas:

- **Agents** (`/`) — displays every agent as a card with live status
- **Agent Runs** (`/runs`) — shows runs, token usage, and cost at a glance, plus a full run table and streaming run detail view
- **Build** (`/build`) — the chat-driven coding environment with a live tool graph; supports `/` commands
- **Chat / CLI** — dockable panels for talking to the running agent or dropping into its `eve dev` terminal

## Deployment Model and Setup Path

evepad ships as a prebuilt npm package. The first `npx evepad` run downloads the Build editor once; subsequent starts take under a second. It can be installed globally with `npm i -g evepad`, run on a custom port with `--port`, and installed as a PWA in Chrome or Safari for a dedicated window and Dock icon. The package is written in TypeScript and contributions are welcome via the project's CONTRIBUTING.md.
