# Grim

> A multiplayer Markdown notebook where people and AI agents read and write shared notes stored in Git.

Grim is a multiplayer Markdown notebook from anomaly for writing notes together with teammates and AI agents. Notes are plain Markdown files saved in Git, editable live in a browser editor, with a Mac app also offered as experimental. The project can be used on grimnotes.app or self-hosted.

## What It Is

Grim is a shared notes workspace where humans and agents work on the same files. Humans edit through a Markdown editor, while agents read and write the same notes with normal bash commands in a virtual filesystem. Every note is a Markdown file in a Git repository, so history is kept and changes can be viewed as diffs.

## How the Human and Agent Workflow Works

The homepage describes a workflow in which an agent writes a plan to a file, a human reads it and asks questions directly inside the content, and the agent reads the human's changes as a diff and updates the file. To bring in an agent, a user copies a prompt from the Share with an agent option and pastes it to the agent. The agent fetches the workspace URL for instructions and runs commands by POSTing them over plain HTTP, so nothing needs to be installed. Full access, such as creating or renaming notes, is available by connecting over MCP.

## Collaboration and Storage

Multiple people can open the same note and see each other's cursors live. Notes autosave a few seconds after typing stops, and a History view shows every version. Images can be dropped or pasted into notes, and notes can be organized into folders within workspaces.

## Self-Hosting and Availability

Workspaces on grimnotes.app are public, so anyone with the link can read and edit them; a demo workspace requires no account. For private notes, users can run their own server, which needs Bun and Git on Linux or macOS and stores notes as Git repos locally. Sign-in is off by default on self-hosted servers and can be enabled with Google sign-in. The macOS app is marked experimental, targets macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon, and is not yet signed or notarised.
