# ink.build

> An engineering design toolkit that lets AI coding agents design, remix and simulate mechanical parts through a remote MCP server.

ink.build is an engineering design toolkit built for AI agents. It exposes a remote MCP server that agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor connect to, so they can create and modify mechanical designs. The homepage shows example designs with part lists, simulation previews and a linked catalog of commercial off-the-shelf parts.

## What It Is

ink.build is a design environment where an agent, rather than a CAD GUI, is the primary operator. Users connect an agent to the MCP endpoint and authenticate. The agent can then work with designs on the site. Published designs such as a mecanum base, a Raspberry Pi 5 case and a Z axis list their parts, materials and quantities. Each design page offers a copyable prompt for remixing it in your own agent.

## Parts Catalog and Simulation

The companion site ink.parts is described as holding over 27,000 COTS parts. Examples include springs, bearings, fasteners, motors, connectors, linear rails and enclosures from various vendors. The Simulation section is marked as coming soon. Its examples include airflow over a pinewood derby car and through a Pi 5 case. The page says these were produced with GPU lattice Boltzmann flow simulation, and it lists assumptions such as a fan modeled as a fixed inlet without swirl.

## Connecting an Agent

Claude Code connects with a claude mcp add command pointing at the ink MCP URL, followed by authenticating through /mcp. Codex uses codex mcp add and a login command. Other clients, such as claude.ai and Cursor, can add the MCP URL as a custom remote connector.
