# md2wechat

> CLI, Agent Skill and API that convert Markdown into WeChat Official Account HTML, with previews, cover images and draft creation.

md2wechat is maintained by geekjourneyx (极客杰尼). It turns Markdown into WeChat Official Account (公众号) layouts through a CLI, an Agent Skill, a Convert API, an Obsidian plugin and an online editor. The latest release listed is v3.8.0.

## What It Is

md2wechat is a WeChat article authoring and publishing toolkit built for AI agents and writers. You write Markdown, choose a theme and font size, and receive WeChat-compatible HTML. The result can be previewed, checked and, only when explicitly requested, saved as a WeChat draft. Conversion and draft creation are separate steps: the Convert API returns HTML and does not create or publish drafts, and conversion does not need WeChat AppID or AppSecret.

## Workflow and Entry Points

- The CLI offers `inspect` (structured checks and draft readiness), `preview`, and `convert`. Upload and draft side effects happen only on explicit request.
- Discovery commands such as `capabilities`, `doctor`, `themes`, `layout` and `skills` give agents machine-readable JSON.
- The Convert API (POST /api/convert) takes Markdown plus a theme and returns HTML.
- The Obsidian plugin previews the layout beside the note and creates a draft after confirmation. It is desktop-only and needs a configured md2wechat CLI.
- The online editor supports manual writing, theme preview and copying into the WeChat backend.

## Layout, Writing and Images

The API mode provides 48 themes and a `:::module` syntax for structured layouts such as hero blocks and callouts. The project lists 83 recommended scenarios mapped to 59 syntax names. A free AI mode instead generates prompts for an external LLM. Additional commands cover article writing, humanizing text, title suggestions, and cover or infographic generation through providers such as Volcengine, OpenAI, Gemini and MiniMax. Interactive modules are rendered fully static by default, and click behavior inside WeChat is not yet verified.

## Multi-Platform Drafts

Since v3.6.0, a browser-capable agent can save prepared Markdown as unpublished drafts on Zhihu, CSDN, Toutiao and Tencent Cloud Developer Community, then reopen them to verify. Preparation succeeding does not mean the draft exists.

## Access and Licensing

The API key is issued manually after contacting the maintainer. The source is released under a Source Available license based on BSL 1.1: personal non-commercial use is free, commercial use requires a separate license, and the code converts to Apache 2.0 on 2030-01-01.
