# Modaal

> A macOS app for building native Swift/SwiftUI iOS and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose Android apps with your own AI coding agent.

Modaal is a macOS app from co-founders Ivan Misuno and Elena Avramenko for building native mobile apps with AI. You describe an idea, approve a plan, and your own connected coding agent writes real Swift and SwiftUI for iOS and Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for Android. The site lists a free plan and a downloadable Mac build.

## What It Is

Modaal is a native app builder that sits on top of a coding agent you already use. It does not generate web wrappers: the iPhone app renders in SwiftUI and the Android app in Jetpack Compose. Projects are real Xcode and Android Studio projects stored in Git on your disk, so you can open them at any time. Builds run locally in native simulators.

## Spec-Driven Workflow

On the first turn the agent reads your description, PRD, screenshots or a Figma link, writes a PRD.md at the project root, and plans the first feature as a spec. Each spec covers Overview, User Scenarios, Technical Approach, Implementation Steps, Files to Modify, Risks and Open Questions, and Testing Strategy. You review and approve it before code is written, and the specs remain in the project for later features. You can choose an architecture preset: Production, Duet or Quick prototype.

## iOS and Android from One Core

Modaal's open-source Duet framework writes each feature's logic once while each platform keeps its own native UI. Both apps replay the same fixtures, and a mismatch fails the build. You can start with one platform and add Android later. Native capabilities such as widgets, Live Activities, shortcuts, sensors, background tasks, watch apps and wallet are listed as supported.

## Bring Your Own Agent and Publish

Modaal connects to the Claude, ChatGPT/Codex, Gemini, Copilot or other agent subscription you already have; the about page cites 13 supported agents including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and Cline. TestFlight and App Store distribution run under your own Apple account, and GitHub integration supports pushing and pull request review.

## Setup Path

The FAQ says iOS builds require macOS with Xcode and, for now, an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer). You also install a supported CLI coding agent, and Modaal checks your setup automatically. Tutorials, events and a Discord community are provided for onboarding.
