# Modulos

> AI governance platform that discovers AI systems, maps controls and evidence to regulations, quantifies risk, and monitors live systems.

Modulos, built by Modulos AG in Zurich, is an AI governance platform for regulated organisations. It combines AI discovery, governance, risk quantification and compliance in one workspace, with AI agents such as Scout supporting the work. The company says it was founded in 2018 as an ETH Zurich spin-off.

## What It Is

Modulos is a governance, risk and compliance (GRC) platform for AI, not a data governance platform, according to its FAQ. It helps organisations keep an inventory of the AI they build, buy and use, assign controls to owners, and collect the evidence auditors and customers ask for. Data science teams can keep working in their existing environments without ingesting datasets or models into the platform.

## How the Governance Loop Works

The homepage describes a six-step cycle: Register, Govern, Detect, Investigate, Remediate and Update Risk.

- Scout discovers AI across cloud accounts, repositories, AI consoles and SaaS logins. It puts the systems into one inventory with an approval state on each.
- Scheduled tests cover metrics such as fairness, performance and drift, as well as the behaviour of live agents. Each result updates the linked controls, files evidence and recalculates risk.
- Agents investigate changes and recommend actions, while the team decides how to respond.
- Existing connectors and an open REST API link the platform to other tools.

## Risk and Compliance Coverage

Monetary risk quantification expresses exposure in euros, so it can sit beside expected benefit in a business case. One control library is mapped to multiple frameworks. The listed frameworks include the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, GDPR, DORA, NIS2, MAS FEAT and the OWASP Top 10 lists for LLMs and agentic AI. Modulos says it adds a framework when it can operationalise it to audit depth, with requirements mapped to controls and controls to evidence.

## Deployment and Trust

Modulos offers SaaS deployment as well as on-prem or private cloud options. It states that it holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification and ISO/IEC 42001 certification by CertX. It also says it was named in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant for AI Governance Platforms.

## Modulos Learn

Modulos also runs free certificate courses on AI literacy. One is a foundations course for all staff, and the other is a practitioner course for GRC and security teams.
