# Neuron AI

## What It Is

Neuron is an agentic framework for the PHP ecosystem. Developers extend an Agent class, define a provider, system instructions, and tools, then call the agent from anywhere in their application. The framework manages conversation memory, tool calls, structured output, and retrieval-augmented generation. It requires PHP ^8.1 and installs with `composer require neuron-core/neuron-ai`; a CLI generator (`vendor/bin/neuron make:agent`) scaffolds agents.

## How the Building Blocks Work

- **Providers:** Switch between LLM providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Mistral, Ollama, AWS Bedrock, DeepSeek, and others with a one-line change.
- **Tools and toolkits:** Give agents concrete abilities, such as a MySQL toolkit whose select tool runs queries in a read-only transaction.
- **MCP connector:** Attach tools exposed by MCP servers instead of writing them manually.
- **Structured output:** Map natural-language input to typed PHP classes for downstream systems.
- **RAG:** Combine an AI provider, an embeddings provider, and a vector store such as Pinecone.
- **Workflow:** Event-driven, multi-step flows with state, loops, and human-in-the-loop interruption, where Agent and RAG classes can run as steps.

## Developer Experience and Ecosystem

The project ships agent skills and an MCP documentation server so AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor can write Neuron code with accurate context. It includes Laravel and Symfony integration skills and stream adapters for frontend protocols such as AG-UI. Built-in observability is available through Inspector.dev integration.
