# shpyrd

> Open-source PaaS on Kubernetes that deploys, secures, and monitors AI-built apps and agents from one CLI and dashboard.

shpyrd is an open-source platform-as-a-service from shpyrd-io that takes apps built with AI tools and runs them online behind a sign-in. It provides a CLI and dashboard on top of Kubernetes, covering builds, releases, databases, logs, and metrics, and is available as a hosted cloud or as a self-run install. The repository marks its status as beta.

## What It Is

shpyrd is a PaaS for deploying and operating applications and agents. It handles cluster bootstrap, buildpack and Dockerfile builds, releases and rollbacks, URLs with TLS, config vars, logs and metrics. Coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor can run the same CLI commands a person would, to deploy an app, read its logs, and roll back a bad release.

## How Deployment Works

You create a project and run `shpyrd deploy` from a repository, from the working tree, or from a Git URL. Builds use Paketo buildpacks (Go, Node, Java, Python, Ruby, .NET, static) or a Dockerfile. Each change to code or config is a release that can be rolled back. Processes can be scaled and resized from a catalog of named instance sizes, and a shell or one-off command can be run in a running instance.

## Databases, Access, and Operations

- Postgres (via CloudNativePG), Valkey/Redis caches, and persistent volumes live in the same project and are injected as connection variables such as DATABASE_URL and REDIS_URL.
- New projects require sign-in. Access is decided at the edge by team and role, and the app receives the user's identity in headers and a signed JWT, so it needs no sign-in code. A project can be set to public.
- Apps can sleep when idle and wake on a signed-in visit.
- Dashboard metrics cover throughput, p50/p95/p99 response time, CPU, and memory with release markers, alongside live logs and log drains.
- Teams, roles, API tokens, audit trails, per-project network policies, and nightly platform backups on cloud profiles are documented.

## Setup Path

The local quick start requires Docker and macOS or Linux, and creates a kind cluster with the base stack. It has also run on Oracle Cloud (OKE). The platform is MPL-2.0 licensed, while an `ee/` directory with enterprise features is under a separate license.
