# Sidefleet

> Run Claude Code, Codex or opencode coding agents on your own machines from a single web page, from any device.

Sidefleet is an open-source control plane and worker, made by Mark Hinschberger, that lets you type a coding task on any device and have a machine you own run it with Claude Code, Codex or opencode. Each task runs in its own git worktree and streams the agent's steps back live to a web page. It is MIT licensed, runs on macOS and Linux, and is in alpha with a hosted option as well as self-hosting.

## What It Is

Sidefleet turns the computers you already have, such as a desk Mac, a Mac mini or a VPS, into a fleet of coding agents managed from one page. You pick an agent, model and repo, and the task goes to the least busy connected machine that has that repo and agent, or you can pin a machine. Claude Code and Codex use the sign-in already present on each machine, while opencode can bring other models through providers such as OpenRouter or local Ollama and LM Studio.

## How a Task Runs

Each task gets its own git worktree on a `sidefleet/<id>` branch, so several tasks on one repo run side by side without touching your checkout; an in-place mode is available when a task needs installed dependencies or local config. Output streams over SSE, survives reloads, and replies resume the same agent session. You can reply while it works, attach images, and review the diff on the page before merging the branch.

## Resilience, Restore and Fork

An opt-in "Move if it drops" setting pushes the task's own branch at most once a minute so another machine with the repo can continue from the last pushed commit if a laptop sleeps. Every message's files are snapshotted, so you can restore the worktree to before any message, or fork a new thread from any message into a different agent and model. Permission modes range from read-only to full access, plus an "Ask me" mode for Claude Code that requests approval on the page.

## Security and Deployment Model

Workers make only outbound HTTP calls to the control plane, so no ports need to be opened. The README describes credential-like strings being redacted on the worker and again on the control plane, with tokens stored as SHA-256 digests. The control plane needs Postgres and can run on your own box, ideally on a private network such as Tailscale, or you can use the hosted version at app.sidefleet.xyz where the agents and code stay on your machines. Documented limitations include no Windows support, a single-process control plane, and redaction being pattern-based rather than guaranteed.
