# SuperPlane

> Open source AI software factory that turns high-confidence backlog issues into verified, review-ready pull requests using coding agents.

SuperPlane, built by SuperPlane Inc., is an open source factory for one-shot engineering. It coordinates coding agents, source control, CI, review, approvals and feedback so that routine backlog issues become verified, review-ready pull requests. It is available as a hosted cloud service and can be self-hosted.

## What It Is

SuperPlane is an agent orchestration and workflow automation system for software teams. It connects to a GitHub repository, imports issues and assesses which tasks are suitable for an agent. Ambiguous work and decisions that need judgment stay with the team. The company states it does not replace existing coding agents, source control, CI or review tools, but coordinates them in one visible system.

## How the Factory Workflow Runs

The board moves work through Backlog, Implement, Verify and Done stages. It scans the codebase and backlog and ranks issues by automation confidence using signals such as scope, available context and test coverage. Task refinement produces a plan and readiness assessment and flags decisions that need human input before implementation. Teams define scope, required checks, review policies, approval points and escalation paths at the workflow level, so the same rules apply to every run. When an agent or CI check fails, SuperPlane captures the failure, gives the agent actionable feedback and reruns checks. If human judgment is still needed, it pauses and escalates with full context. An agent review assesses merge confidence for the final human decision. Workflows can also wait for tool events, call an agent or request a person's approval.

## Deployment and Openness

The engine is released under Apache 2.0, with files in the /ee directory under a separate Enterprise Edition license. Users can choose their models and run in the cloud or on-prem. Self-hosting is documented via Docker Compose on a single Linux VM or Kubernetes on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. The docs also reference an MCP server and a CLI.

## Vendor-Reported Results

The SuperPlane site claims 30% of backlog issues handled autonomously, 90%+ of factory-produced PRs ready for approval, 70% fewer engineer touchpoints per routine issue and a 4x faster issue-to-reviewed-PR cycle. These are vendor figures and are not independently verified.
