# Vowen

> Voice app for Mac and Windows that dictates into any app, writes meeting notes without a bot, transcribes files and runs voice commands using local or own-key models.

Vowen is a voice productivity app for macOS and Windows. Hold a key and speak into any app, take meeting notes without a bot joining the call, transcribe audio and video files, and edit or act on text by voice. Its speech models run on the user's own computer by default, and cloud speech or AI services are used only when the user adds their own key.

## What It Is

Vowen is a dictation, meeting-notes and transcription tool. Dictation works in any app with a text cursor, including email, chat, editors and terminals. It applies per-app tones, learns names and jargon through a dictionary, strips filler words, and supports text expansions and voice shortcuts that open apps, pages or folders.

## Command Mode and Meetings

Command Mode lets users select text, say what to change, and paste the result. It can also convert a selected file, answer questions about what is on screen, and trigger voice shortcuts. For calls, Vowen records the microphone and the computer's audio, so no bot joins Zoom, Teams, Meet or other calls. It transcribes both sides live and labels speakers on the device. Users can ask questions during or after a call, and notes are generated from templates, with decisions and action items.

## File Transcription and Models

Audio and video files such as MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4 and MOV can be transcribed with speaker labels and timestamps. Exports include TXT, Markdown, PDF, SRT and VTT. Local models include NVIDIA Parakeet and Nemotron and OpenAI Whisper, which work offline. Cloud speech providers and AI providers, including any OpenAI-compatible endpoint such as Ollama or LM Studio, can be used with the user's own key, with no Vowen server in between. AI cleanup, Command Mode and summaries need a language model, either cloud or local.

## Coding Agents and Integrations

Vowen can dictate prompts into tools like Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and Codex. The Vowen CLI runs an MCP server so Claude Code and Codex can search notes and transcripts. Pro-tier sync works through the user's own cloud storage, and Obsidian and webhook options are listed.
