Products & Services
A cloud-based platform for web scraping and browser automation that turns any website into an API. The platform provides tools for developing and running web data extraction solutions at scale.
An open marketplace with over 14,318 ready-made Actors (cloud-based programs that can be easily run, shared, integrated, and built upon) for web scraping and automation tasks. Developers can monetize their tools through the marketplace. Last month (as of Nov 2025), the company paid developers over $500,000.
An open-source web scraping and browser automation library for Node.js that helps developers build fast and reliable crawlers with a single interface for both HTTP and headless browsers.
An open-source web scraping and browser automation library for Python, expanding Crawlee to the Python ecosystem with the same powerful features.
Market Position
Apify positions itself as the world's largest marketplace for web data and automation tools. They differentiate through: (1) A containerized cloud infrastructure for scalability, (2) The largest marketplace with 14,318+ ready-made Actors, (3) Open-source Crawlee libraries for both Node.js and Python, (4) Developer-first approach with monetization opportunities, (5) Strong integration ecosystem with AI/LLM tools like LangChain and LlamaIndex, (6) Focus on handling dynamic, JavaScript-rendered websites that traditional scrapers can't handle, (7) Ability to scrape 4+ billion web pages monthly. The company has been profitable and cash-flow positive, growing without significant VC funding until 2024.

Founding Story
Jan Čurn and Jakub Balada met while studying computer science at Charles University in Prague. They initially formed Dev tank, a consulting company, but grew dissatisfied with selling their time. In 2014-2015, while working on a client project that required extracting data from real estate websites, they realized existing web scraping tools couldn't handle the dynamic, JavaScript-driven modern web. They decided to build their own tool using PhantomJS, the first headless browser. On October 20, 2015, they launched Apifier (later renamed Apify) on Hacker News from a hacker house. They were accepted into the inaugural Y Combinator Fellowship (YC F1) program in 2015, which provided $12,000 and mentorship. The company moved to Mountain View, California for the program, then returned to Prague in 2016 where they raised seed funding and began building the full-stack platform.
