Founding Story
Bitdefender grew out of antivirus technology developed by SOFTWIN, a software company founded by Florin and Măriuca Talpeș in 1990 in post-communist Romania. Bitdefender was established in 2001 to build a global security-technology business around that protection expertise; the initial vision was to deliver strong, easy-to-use antimalware protection and make Romania a source of internationally competitive software innovation.
