Products & Services
A visual IDE for developers to design, prototype, and ship production code 4x faster. AI agent for product, design, and code that generates code using existing components and design systems. Supports ideation, prototyping, and full code generation from Figma files, sketches, or text descriptions.
A headless CMS and page builder with optimization tools for marketing and content teams. Allows teams to manage copy updates, launch campaigns, and publish via API without engineering tickets.
Tool for converting Figma designs to production code. Enables design-to-code workflow using AI to generate code from design files.
Market Position
Builder.io positions itself as a visual development platform that bridges the gap between no-code tools and traditional development. Unlike pure no-code platforms, Builder.io integrates with existing tech stacks and allows developers to use their own components and design systems. It competes with headless CMS platforms like Contentful and Storyblok, but differentiates through its AI-powered visual development capabilities, design-to-code conversion (Visual Copilot for Figma), and developer-friendly approach. The platform emphasizes making developers happy while empowering non-technical teams, positioning itself as 'the only Visual Development Platform for cross-functional teams' rather than a replacement for developers.

Founding Story
Founders Steve Sewell and Brent Locks met on the campus of UC Berkeley in 2011 and have been friends and colleagues ever since. While leading engineering and product teams at ShopStyle (Rakuten), they experienced constant bottlenecks where the engineering backlog was overwhelmed with requests for landing pages and merchandising updates. They found that existing no-code tools either didn't integrate with their tech stack or still required heavy developer involvement. Frustrated by this problem, they decided to build a solution themselves that would empower non-technical teams to build and optimize digital experiences without relying on developers, while still working within existing tech stacks.
