Products & Services
On-demand Linux and GPU virtual machines with per-second billing and scalable configurations.
Fully managed platform for building, deploying, and scaling applications without managing infrastructure.
Managed Kubernetes with a free control plane, integrated networking, storage, and developer-friendly operations.
Managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis/Valkey, MongoDB, and OpenSearch database services with backups, updates, and point-in-time recovery.
Market Position
DigitalOcean positions itself as a simpler, more predictable, developer-centric alternative to hyperscale clouds such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, while competing in AI infrastructure with GPU clouds and inference providers. Its differentiation is straightforward provisioning, transparent pricing, integrated managed services, community education, and an increasingly integrated AI-native stack for startups and digital-native enterprises rather than the breadth and complexity of hyperscalers.

Founding Story
DigitalOcean was started to meet developers' need for cloud computing that was simpler and more affordable than the incumbent alternatives. The founders entered Techstars in 2012 and built the first Droplet, an easy-to-use virtual machine that could be provisioned in minutes, with an initial focus on developers and small businesses.
Business Model
