Products & Services
An AI-native IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that keeps developers in flow. Available on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Features Cascade, an agentic coding assistant that tracks edits, terminal, clipboard, and browser context for context-aware suggestions.
Tool designed to streamline large-scale codebase transformations with agentic capabilities that codes, fixes, and thinks multiple steps ahead.
Intelligent code suggestions, auto-completions, and error corrections available as extensions for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio, Vim, NeoVim, Jupyter, and Chrome.
Predictive coding experience combining Autocomplete and Supercomplete for fast code generation.
Market Position
Windsurf positions itself as an enterprise-grade AI coding assistant and AI-native IDE that competes directly with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and other AI coding tools. Key differentiators include: (1) Context-aware everything - proprietary Riptide reasoning engine that analyzes entire codebases; (2) Agentic IDE with Cascade that thinks multiple steps ahead; (3) Free-forever tier with generous features to drive adoption; (4) Enterprise focus with FedRAMP High and DoD IL6 compliance; (5) Multi-model support (GPT, Claude, Llama); (6) Built on expertise from GPU infrastructure optimization background. Windsurf claims to be 'the world's most advanced AI coding assistant' and emphasizes keeping developers 'in flow' rather than just autocomplete. The company grew from 0 to 1 million users in just 4 months after launching the Windsurf Editor.

Founding Story
Varun Mohan and Douglas Chen, who first met in middle school and later became classmates at MIT, founded Exafunction in June 2021. Before starting Exafunction, they saw first-hand the promise and challenges of deploying deep learning models in the real world. The company initially focused on building serverless infrastructure that abstracts away the challenges of deep learning and GPU virtualization. In 2022, they pivoted from Exafunction to Codeium, transforming the company's focus from GPU management to AI-powered developer tools. In April 2025, they rebranded to Windsurf, reflecting a shift from an autocomplete plugin to a full AI-native IDE.
