Founding Story
Almquist, Feuer, and Hussey initially explored software for 3D ocean-floor maps, but concluded that market was too small. They pivoted to the internet's server bottleneck: an intelligent, high-speed load-balancing switch that could make many inexpensive computers perform like one large computer. They formed Virtual Softworks, renamed it F5 Labs, raised $1 million, and built the BIG/ip product.
