Unlike legacy tools with AI bolt-ons, Gamma is built from the ground up as an AI-first platform. It differentiates through its 'lowering the floor' approach - making design accessible to everyone through AI as a design partner, web-native sharing format, and instant content generation from prompts. Competes with Canva (described as B2B equivalent), Tome, and traditional productivity tools, but maintains a focus on AI-powered visual storytelling rather than just presentations. Achieved product-led growth through viral web-native sharing, reaching over $100M ARR with only 52 employees.

Board of Directors
Founding Story
Gamma was founded in fall 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Grant Lee, while living in London during peak pandemic, conceived the idea after recognizing the limitations of traditional presentation tools exposed by the shift to remote work. Having spent extensive time creating slide decks throughout his career in investment banking, consulting, finance, and operations, he reached out to former Optimizely colleagues James Fox and Jon Noronha, who were based in San Francisco. The three founders physically started the company in a converted two-bedroom apartment in Potrero Hill, San Francisco during the shelter-in-place period. They initially spent six months dual-tracking two products: Gamma (presentations) and The Lobby (a virtual office for remote workers), eventually writing off The Lobby to focus solely on Gamma.
