Market Position
Graphite positions itself as the modern alternative to GitHub's native code review, competing with tools like Gerrit and Phabricator by offering stacked PR workflows (inspired by workflows at Meta and Google) combined with AI-powered code review. Key differentiators include: AI code review that provides codebase-aware feedback on par with human reviewers, stack-aware merge queue, unified developer platform combining CLI, PR page, inbox, and merge queue in one workflow, and focus on developer productivity with measurable impact (e.g., Shopify saw 33% increase in PRs shipped, Asana engineers shipped 21% more code within 30 days).

Board of Directors
Founding Story
The three founders (Merrill Lutsky, Greg Foster, and Tomas Reimers) met in January 2020 at Neo Startup Camp, a workspace and retreat held at the Costanoa resort on the California coast. Shortly after, they founded the company as Screenplay with a mission centered on software code quality. They initially started as a mobile QA and release management tool company. After building an internal code review tool and seeing strong organic adoption (40 users when they expected 20), they pivoted in September 2021 to focus exclusively on code review tools, which became Graphite.
