Products & Services
Open-source Python framework for building reliable AI applications. It runs input and output guards to detect, quantify, and mitigate risks, and helps generate structured data from LLMs. The repository is distributed under the Apache License 2.0 and is installable with pip as guardrails-ai.
Catalog and installation ecosystem for reusable validators—pre-built measures of risks such as toxic language, PII, prompt injection, jailbreaks, secrets, competitor mentions, and formatting failures. The Hub page lists 65 validators.
Commercial platform for creating and deploying runtime guardrails and for testing and validating customers' generative-AI applications. Commercial terms describe licensed platform access, generic validators, connected accounts, APIs, and services.
Simulation environment for LLM teams to test conversational agents with realistic synthetic personas and diverse, stateful scenarios; it surfaces edge cases and failure modes before production and exports scenarios to Hugging Face or evaluation/tracing tools.
Market Position
Guardrails AI positioned itself as an open-source, developer-oriented AI reliability and assurance layer combining inline input/output validation, a reusable validator ecosystem, runtime enforcement, structured-output generation, and simulation-based agent testing. Its differentiation was the combination of the Guardrails framework/Hub and Snowglobe rather than only an API filter or an LLM judge. Relevant alternatives and competitors include NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails, Robust Intelligence, Lakera, Protect AI, and other AI safety/evaluation platforms.
Leadership
Founders
Shreya Rajpal
CEO and co-founder; AI/ML engineer who built self-driving technology at Drive.ai, worked on autonomous systems at Apple, and was a founding engineer at Predibase.
Diego Oppenheimer
Co-founder; Seattle technology entrepreneur who previously co-founded and led machine-learning-operations company Algorithmia, acquired by DataRobot in 2021. He was also a partner and CEO-in-residence at Factory.
Safeer Mohiuddin
Co-founder; software and AI operator with experience launching and scaling software products at AWS; also teaches data science and AI practitioners.
Zayd Simjee
Co-founder; software and ML engineer whose experience spans AI, infrastructure, systems, and user experience, including software and engineering leadership work at AWS.
Executive Team
Shreya Rajpal
Co-founder and CEO
AI/ML engineer formerly associated with Drive.ai, Apple, and Predibase; she led Guardrails AI and created/maintained the open-source Guardrails project.
Zayd Simjee
Co-founder
Software and ML engineer focused on AI, infrastructure, systems, and user experience, with prior experience at AWS; he joined Harvey's product and engineering organization after the acquisition.
Founding Story
The founders started Guardrails in 2023 to address the gap between the promise of large language models and their unpredictable, unsafe, or noncompliant behavior in real applications. Their initial vision was an open-source, inline validation and corrective-orchestration layer—an inverse firewall around LLM applications—that would let builders define policies, detect risks, and make AI outputs more reliable before and during production use.
Business Model
Revenue Model
Open-source framework adoption is complemented by paid commercial subscriptions/licenses for the Guardrails AI Platform and services. The terms describe customer orders, paid platform access, pilot/evaluation services with promotional credits, and internally used licensed services; no public self-serve price card was identified.
Pricing Tiers
Terms describe an evaluation license that can use promotional credits until the credits are exhausted or a commercial subscription begins.
The platform is licensed to authorized customer users for internal business use; public tier prices were not listed.
