Products & Services
Open-source Python framework for building interactive dashboards, tools, and complex applications in notebooks or as standalone deployable web apps.
High-level plotting API that quickly creates interactive HoloViews, GeoViews, or Panel objects from Pandas, Xarray, Dask, NetworkX, and other data structures.
Declarative objects for making data instantly visualizable and building Bokeh plots from high-level specifications.
Geographic visualization library that extends and interoperates with HoloViews.
Market Position
HoloViz positions itself as a coherent, interoperable Python visualization ecosystem spanning high-level plotting, declarative visualization, large-data rendering, geospatial analysis, reactive dashboards, and deployment. It is differentiated from single-purpose plotting or dashboard frameworks by letting users stay in Python and combine Bokeh, Matplotlib, Plotly, Pandas, Xarray, Dask, and other PyData tools; the Panel announcement specifically compares its dashboarding concepts with Shiny, ipywidgets, and Plotly Dash.

Founding Story
HoloViz grew out of PyViz, a project originally started by Anaconda that brought together authors of Datashader, HoloViews, GeoViews, Param, and Colorcet and added Panel and hvPlot. In July 2019 the group split PyViz's neutral, landscape-wide information role from HoloViz's opinionated guide to the tools created and maintained by the group, with the initial vision of making Python visualization more accessible and providing interoperable higher-level interfaces.
Business Model
Revenue Model
HoloViz and its component packages are open source and free for commercial and non-commercial use. The ecosystem is supported through Anaconda, Inc., partnerships and contracts with commercial and government clients, grants, and NumFOCUS fiscal sponsorship rather than public software subscription pricing.
