Products & Services
A web-based, collaborative tool for modelling and explaining complex software architecture with the C4 model. It provides hierarchical, zoomable diagrams, reusable objects and relationships, dynamic flows, overlays, drafts and links from model elements to real-world resources.
An MCP integration that connects IcePanel models to compatible LLM clients, enabling users to ask questions about their architecture and, where supported, update the model through AI tools.
Developer capabilities for importing, exporting and synchronising model data, including JSON/YAML import and a REST API/SDK for custom integrations and automation.
Market Position
IcePanel positions itself between generic whiteboard/diagramming tools such as Miro, Lucidchart and Draw.io and code-oriented architecture tools such as Structurizr and Mermaid. Its differentiation is a collaborative, model-based C4 hierarchy, reusable linked objects, overlays and interactive flows that reduce diagram drift, plus API and MCP capabilities for automation and AI-assisted architecture work.

Jacob Shadbolt
Co-founder and CEO. He studied Games Technology at Bournemouth University and was a UX Designer at Mastercard, where he worked on greenfield real-time payment products including monitoring and mobile payments.
Victor Leach
Co-founder. Victor met Jacob at Bournemouth University in 2014; IcePanel's founders describe the product as growing from Victor's earlier project, whose name they retained. He has described his focus as discovering and solving technology problems and building products people love.

Co-founder
Co-founded IcePanel with Jacob Shadbolt after meeting him at Bournemouth University; previously created the project from which the IcePanel name was retained.
Founding Story
Jacob Shadbolt and Victor Leach began working on IcePanel in June 2020 because they wanted to build something people wanted rather than remain in day-to-day jobs. They saw engineering and product teams struggling to explain complex systems with generic, inconsistent and quickly outdated diagrams, and set out to create a model-based, C4-oriented single source of truth for architecture communication. They worked full-time using personal savings, incorporated in Canada in January 2022, and later joined Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch.
