Founding Story
Metabase was born out of Expa, Garrett Camp's startup studio. Founder Sameer Al-Sakran, then an Entrepreneur in Residence at Expa, wanted to solve the problem of data accessibility by creating a simple, low-code tool that non-technical team members could use to query data. The project was developed as an open-source tool for four years before introducing paid managed services.
