MontFerret
MontFerret is the open-source Ferret project: a declarative-first, expression-oriented language and embeddable runtime for querying, transforming, synchronizing, and automating structured data from applications, websites, APIs, databases, documents, files, and browser state. Its stated aim is to make data automation simpler, more expressive, portable, and easier to maintain.

Products & Services
Open-source declarative-first, expression-oriented language, compiler, standard library, bytecode VM, and embeddable Go runtime for querying, transforming, synchronizing, and automating structured data.
Alpha-generation complete rewrite with a redesigned language and runtime, compilation pipeline, register-based VM, capability-based execution, reusable plans, isolated sessions, diagnostics, modules, and embedding APIs.
WebAssembly-compiled Ferret runtime exposed to Node.js and modern browsers through the official @montferret/ferret package.
Command-line tooling for running FQL locally, automation and CI, formatting, inspection, debugging, and module workflows.
Market Position
Ferret positions itself as a focused, open-source alternative to bespoke scraping glue and one-off automation scripts: FQL keeps data logic declarative and portable while the host controls capabilities and integrations. It began with web extraction but now spans APIs, databases, documents, files, browser state, and embeddable application runtimes; the project explicitly says it complements rather than replaces general-purpose languages.

Founding Story
Tim Voronov says he started Ferret after needing to scrape websites without writing a thousand lines of glue code for every new page. He wanted to describe operations such as finding links, filtering them, and transforming them without dealing with the underlying mechanics, so he built a small language for his own problem; other users then began relying on it. The original implementation was influenced by ArangoDB's AQL and later evolved into the broader Ferret v2 language/runtime.
