Market Position
Mike positions itself as an open-source, self-hostable alternative to proprietary legal-AI platforms such as Harvey and Legora. Its differentiators are source-code and prompt transparency, local deployment and data control, zero software-license cost, model choice, and the ability for firms to fork or extend workflows; the trade-off is that customers must operate infrastructure and handle deployment, governance, integrations, and support themselves.

Founding Story
Will Chen built Mike after trying commercial legal-AI products such as Harvey and Legora, with the initial aim of demonstrating that a functional legal-AI application could be made open source and free to use. The first public release describes the vision as enabling firms and developers to inspect, self-host, and adapt the complete application rather than place documents and workflows inside a closed vendor system; public coverage says the initial application was built in about two weeks.
Business Model
Revenue Model
The open-source software has zero license cost and no per-seat pricing; users choose their own model/provider and pay the API or infrastructure costs they incur. A hosted cloud version is available for signup, while the source can be deployed locally or in a firm's own environment.
