Products & Services
Neutral governance, infrastructure, community programs, and lifecycle support for open-source JavaScript and web projects, including Node.js, Electron, jQuery, webpack, ESLint, Jest, Fastify, NativeScript, Lit, and others.
JavaScript runtime built on Chrome's V8 engine; a core project in the OpenJS ecosystem.
Flow-based, low-code programming environment built on Node.js for event-driven applications, IoT, hardware, APIs, and online services. It offers a browser-based flow editor, single-click deployment, reusable JSON flows, an extensible node palette, and a community library of more than 5,000 nodes.
Small, fast library for standards-based web components with reactive state, scoped styles, and declarative templates.
Market Position
OpenJS is not a conventional software vendor; it competes for ecosystem stewardship, corporate membership, and project affiliation with other neutral open-source foundations and Linux Foundation-hosted projects. Its differentiation is a JavaScript-specific, vendor-neutral center combining technical governance through the CPC, project lifecycle management, shared infrastructure, ecosystem security programs, and member/community coordination across a large portfolio of interoperable projects.

Executive Team
Robin Bender Ginn
Executive Director
Former Microsoft executive who led open-source initiatives, co-founded @OpenAtMicrosoft, helped shape Microsoft's Node.js involvement, and previously led marketing and communications at Healthcare NExT; she also worked across Microsoft Open Technologies, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft's Developer Division.
Benjamin Sternthal
Program Director
Listed by the OpenJS Foundation as Program Director; the foundation team is supported through the Linux Foundation for communications, marketing, and program operations.
Board of Directors
Founding Story
The foundation was formed in March 2019 through the merger of the Node.js Foundation and the JS Foundation. The organizations had increasingly collaborated because JavaScript projects are interconnected; the merger was intended to eliminate operational duplication, streamline member support, coordinate work with standards bodies, and create one neutral center for projects and ecosystem sustainability. The immediate predecessor organizations were established with Linux Foundation support (Node.js Foundation in 2015 and JS Foundation in 2016), but the OpenJS Foundation's own formation was the 2019 merger.
Business Model
Revenue Model
Member-supported nonprofit model funded primarily by corporate and end-user membership, with project sponsorships and targeted ecosystem/security funding. The foundation also receives in-kind support and project donations; for example, Google Open Source donated Lit, and the 2025 security work was supported by Alpha-Omega funding.
