Founding Story
OpenMetadata was launched in the latter half of 2021 to address fragmented metadata and data usability problems. The founders' initial vision was an open-source project and standard that would centralize metadata so people could discover, collaborate around and improve their data; the project later expanded into an open context layer for AI agents.
