Orkas
Orkas is an open-source, local-first multi-agent desktop application: users describe a goal in one chat, and a Commander agent plans the work and coordinates specialist agents to deliver research, documents, slides, video, websites, code and other usable outputs. It is designed for indie builders, one-person businesses and small teams, with local files, keys and outputs by default.

Products & Services
Free, MIT-licensed, open-source local-first desktop client for macOS and Windows, with Linux x64/arm64 source support. A Commander coordinates built-in and custom specialist agents, external CLI agents, skills, connectors, projects, automations and deliverables.
Commander orchestrates goals and nine official specialists: DeepResearcher, ContentWriter, PptMaker, ImageStudio, VideoStudio, OfficeWorker, ProductDeveloper, UIDesigner and SeoGeoAgent.
Optional managed official models, including Orkas-1.5 and Orkas-1.5 Pro, are billed in credits; credits can also be used by external products through an Orkas API key.
A related Orkas-AI open-source video-production toolkit/repository for turning coding agents into a video workflow; it is part of the Orkas-AI project ecosystem.
Market Position
Orkas positions itself between code-first orchestration frameworks such as LangChain and CrewAI, single-assistant desktop products such as ChatGPT/Claude Desktop, cloud-hosted agent-team SaaS, and personal agents such as OpenClaw and Hermes-Agent. Its differentiators are a ready-to-use desktop GUI, Commander-led specialist teamwork, local-first data and key control, BYO-provider flexibility, reusable skills/memory and support for both built-in and external CLI agents.
Founding Story
The project's initial vision is to provide a team of AI specialists rather than a single chatbot or a code-only orchestration framework. Orkas puts the agent runtime and workspace on the user's computer, supports bring-your-own model providers, and makes the Commander responsible for breaking goals into coordinated, verifiable work.
