Founding Story
Pinecone was founded in 2019 by Edo Liberty after he realized during his time at AWS and Yahoo! that there was no packaged solution for vector search systems available to companies without enormous engineering and data-science resources. While working on custom vector search systems at enormous scales at tech giants, he discovered the main difficulty companies faced in leveraging machine learning wasn't in training or deploying models, but in working with large amounts of vector data in real-time. Recognizing this widespread challenge as AI/ML initiatives expanded, Edo founded Pinecone to democratize access to vector databases and create the vector database category of solutions.

Former Director of Research at Amazon AI Labs (AWS) where he led the creation of Amazon SageMaker. Prior to AWS, Edo was Head of Research at Yahoo! where he led advanced machine learning initiatives focused on semantic search and recommendation systems. He holds a Ph.D. and completed his B.Sc. in Physics and Computer Science at Tel Aviv University. He is also an adjunct professor.
