Founding Story
Retool was founded in 2017 by David Hsu and Anthony Guo through the Y Combinator W17 batch. The founders were motivated by the repetitive, boilerplate nature of building internal tools at previous companies. They aimed to create a 'higher level of abstraction' for software development, allowing engineers to focus on business logic rather than UI components and basic data plumbing.
