Products & Services
An MIT-licensed macOS/Linux CLI that assembles named agent rosters, automatically drafts names for sessions, puts names and short task summaries in session titles, tracks work, and benches names when sessions end. It supports local SQLite storage and an optional cloud API mode.
The hosted service at api.getrostr.sh that synchronizes rosters and draft state across machines and cloud environments. Tasks and repository names are encrypted client-side; the service is used by the CLI's cloud mode.
An Anki extension and accompanying web service operated by Rosebud Labs LLC that uses AI to generate flashcard text, text-to-speech audio, and images from card fields and prompts.
Market Position
Rostr positions itself as a small, open-source coordination and identity layer for coding agents rather than a general-purpose coding agent or project-management suite. Its differentiators are memorable roster-based identities, automatic session/task titles, bench/draft lifecycle management, repository-specific rosters, and a local-first design with optional end-to-end-encrypted synchronization.

Founding Story
Michael Piazza described rostr as a simple idea built and polished rapidly: every coding agent should have a memorable, scannable name and know its own identity when communicating across Slack, GitHub, email, or other surfaces. The motivation was reducing the cognitive load of tracking many asynchronous agent sessions and making notifications and workstreams easier to triage.
Business Model
Revenue Model
Rostr's hosted Service is offered free of charge; the CLI is open source under the MIT License. Smart Notes, a separate Rosebud Labs product, uses subscriptions or a free trial and processes payments through Stripe.
Pricing Tiers
The rostr Terms of Service state that the Service is free; local mode runs on the user's machine and cloud mode uses the hosted API.
