Products & Services
Open-source in-memory data structure server/database created by Sanfilippo, supporting data structures and high-performance application workloads.
A Redis data type for storing and querying high-dimensional vector embeddings, with similarity search, quantization, dimensionality reduction, and attribute filtering; available in beta in Redis 8 Community Edition.

Mode-S decoder for RTL-SDR devices.
Market Position
Sanfilippo is positioned as an influential independent open-source systems programmer rather than a standalone software company. Redis is his signature work: a high-performance in-memory data-structure system, while vector sets provide a Redis-native alternative for specific vector-similarity use cases alongside Redis Query Engine; his local-inference work targets a more self-hosted, hardware-local approach than cloud-only AI tooling.

Salvatore Sanfilippo
Computer programmer, open-source creator, author; Redis evangelist
Italian programmer based in Catania and known as antirez. Creator and long-time maintainer of Redis, author of hping and several other open-source projects, and author of the novel WOHPE. He returned to Redis in December 2024 in an evangelist role.
Founding Story
In 2009, while building the Italian real-time web analytics service LLOOGG, Sanfilippo encountered performance limitations with MySQL. He created Redis as an in-memory data store to solve the service's scaling needs; he later described the project as emerging from a playful environment focused on solving problems and having fun.
Business Model
Revenue Model
Sanfilippo's principal projects are open-source software. His personal site also publishes a commercially available novel, WOHPE; the Redis-related employment and sponsorship described in his writing are context for his work rather than evidence of a separately incorporated venture.
