Open-source foundational large language model with over 30 billion parameters (dense decoder-only transformer), trained on roughly 2 trillion tokens across ~450K updates on the LUMI and JUPITER EU supercomputers. Founding Story
Tilde was founded in Riga in 1991, immediately after Latvia regained independence, to make Latvian usable in the digital age. Its first product was a keyboard driver that enabled Latvian diacritics, followed by spellcheckers, dictionaries, and localization work. That founding problem — small languages being poorly served by mainstream computing — grew into three decades of work on machine translation, speech technology, and eventually European multilingual large language models.
