Products & Services
An open-source Agent Skills-format skill installed into a coding agent. It converts a short idea, social post, or full article into an editorial scene, mini-comic, explainer diagram, or transparent character cutout, using recurring mascot characters and print-style looks.
Installable mascot packs that pair a named character with a bundled print look; the official catalog describes 58 characters/packs and 17 looks, including Blot, Blip, Mole, and newer SNES-look packs. Users can also build their own character.
Market Position
illo positions itself against one-off AI image-generation workflows by emphasizing repeatable editorial identity: reference-locked mascots, bundled print looks, agent-native commands, and model-visible QA/re-rolls. Its distinguishing tradeoff is that it is an installed open-source orchestration layer—not a self-contained image model or hosted SaaS—so rendering depends on the user's coding agent and selected backend.

Founding Story
Chow created illo to solve the consistency problem in AI illustration: tools can make one good image, but a multi-image set often becomes a collection of unrelated generations. The initial vision was an agent skill using reference-locked character packs, built-in visual QA, and re-rolls so a recurring mascot can perform an idea consistently across illustrations.
Business Model
Revenue Model
illo is an MIT-licensed open-source installation, not a hosted image API, SaaS account, or web app with checkout. The skill is free to install; users supply their own agent access or signed-in subscriptions and can optionally use an OpenRouter key, with Chow's launch post describing OpenRouter generation at approximately $0.06 per image.
