Gemini in Chrome Just Got a Major Upgrade with Auto Browse
Google just shipped a big update to Gemini in Chrome and this one is worth paying attention to. Built on Gemini 3, theyre adding a new side panel experience so you can keep Gemini open while you browse any tab. But the real headline here is Auto Browse.
Auto Browse is essentially agentic browsing. You can tell Gemini to do things for you on the web instead of just answering questions about it. Need to research hotel and flight options for a trip. Gemini can go look across dates and find whats in your budget. Planning a party and found a photo with decorations you like. It can identify those items, search for similar products, and add them to your cart while staying within a budget you set. It can even handle sites that require login by using Google Password Manager with your permission.
The side panel also integrates with Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights through Connected Apps. So you can ask it to pull up an old email with event details and then draft a response without bouncing between tabs.
A few things to note. Auto Browse is rolling out in preview and requires a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription. The core Gemini in Chrome features are available on Windows, MacOS, and Chromebook Plus in the U.S. right now.
This feels like Googles answer to OpenAIs Operator and Perplexity Comet. The agentic browsing space is heating up fast.
Whats your take on AI that can actually navigate and interact with sites for you. Are you comfortable letting an agent handle tasks like adding items to your cart or filling out forms?
