Adobe
Adobe empowers everyone, everywhere to imagine, create, and bring any digital experience to life. The company changes the world through personalized digital experiences, providing software for digital media creation, document management, and customer experience management.
Founding Story
Adobe was founded in December 1982 by John Warnock and Charles Geschke after leaving Xerox PARC. At Xerox, they had developed InterPress, a revolutionary graphics language for digital printing, but Xerox management declined to commercialize it. Steve Jobs offered to buy their technology for $5 million, but they refused and instead accepted Apple's purchase of a 19% stake at five times Adobe's valuation, along with a 5-year licensing fee paid in advance. This partnership enabled PostScript to be integrated into Apple's LaserWriter printers. Adobe became the first company in Silicon Valley history to be profitable in its first year.
