Products & Services
Free, open-source desktop/local product and CLI that combines a Markdown-backed knowledge base, files, tasks, dashboards and AI agents. Runs on the customer's machines or infrastructure with bring-your-own AI accounts. Available for Mac and Windows, with Linux listed as coming.
Managed hosting for one always-on Cabinet, providing browser/phone/laptop access, scheduled agent work, automatic updates, daily backups with seven-day retention and BYOAI or optional Cabinet AI.
Higher-capacity managed hosting with a larger container, 30-day encrypted backups, point-in-time restore, custom domain, faster chat support and region pinning.
Enterprise deployment for teams and regulated industries, with shared workspaces (early access), dedicated infrastructure and data residency, SSO via SAML/OIDC, 99.9% SLA, security-review materials/SOC 2 readiness plan and a dedicated Slack channel.
Market Position
Cabinet positions itself between a knowledge-base/workspace product and an agent runtime: unlike chat-first agent workspaces, it makes an owned, editable file hierarchy the ground truth, so agent work compounds into durable documents, dashboards and Git history. It emphasizes open source, local-first/self-hosted deployment, BYOAI and portability, contrasting with closed SaaS knowledge bases and workflow automation tools such as Notion, Obsidian, Gumloop, Town, Claude Cowork and Buzz. Its differentiation versus Buzz is a knowledge base and live work views rather than a chat/event log; versus Gumloop it is an owned workspace where knowledge is authored rather than a read-only indexed automation layer.
Leadership
Founders
Hila Shmuel
Founder of Cabinet; former Apple Engineering Manager and architect for AI and data infrastructure, where she helped build distributed training and orchestration systems for models deployed to billions of Apple devices. She began coding in 2006, studied computer science, and previously worked in cybersecurity.
Executive Team
Hila Shmuel
Founder
Former Apple Engineering Manager/architect for AI and data infrastructure; previously worked in cybersecurity and has more than 20 years of software-engineering experience.
Founding Story
Hila Shmuel created Cabinet from her own experience managing multiple projects, repositories, marketing work and administrative tools. She wanted a single place, similar to Notion but connected to her projects and able to run Claude Code/AI teams, with agents that could work autonomously on recurring tasks and write their results back into a durable knowledge base. After seeing Andrej Karpathy's knowledge-base discussion at 4 a.m. during a vacation, she shipped the project and bought runcabinet.com rather than waiting another week.
