Receipt Bot began as an internal tool developed from the paperwork and scaling problems faced by Excelsious, an accountancy outsourcing service co-founded by Irfan Sharif. The founders observed that accountants could spend up to two-thirds of their time chasing paperwork, sorting documents, processing data and correcting errors, and set out to build a cloud bookkeeping application that handled that work intelligently for SMBs.
