Founding Story
The founders (Sam Bhagwat, Abhi Aiyer, and Shane Thomas) spent a decade building Gatsby, the popular open-source React framework. In October 2024, while attempting to build sales agents, they became frustrated by the lack of good TypeScript-native tooling for AI agent development. They originally set out to build an AI-powered CRM but quickly pivoted to building better developer tooling when they realized the existing frameworks didn't meet their needs. This led them to create Mastra, applying their decade of experience in open-source JavaScript framework development to the emerging AI agent ecosystem.
