Products & Services
Full-source, server-authoritative C#/.NET backend and Unity client SDK for persistent player state, shared client/server logic, networking, social systems, matchmaking, economy and live-service features.
Web portal and operational dashboard for environments, game configuration, economy, segmentation, A/B testing, events, player support, analytics, roles and infrastructure operations.
Managed development and production environments, with a path to Private Cloud/self-hosting at very large scale.
Free local-development plan including the full Metaplay SDK, local server, LiveOps Dashboard and BotClient testing.
Market Position
Metaplay positions itself as a vertically integrated, fully programmable alternative to black-box game backends: unlike services such as PlayFab and Beamable, it ships the backend as source code into the customer's cloud, combining server-authoritative gameplay, LiveOps, player support and infrastructure in one system. Relevant alternatives also include custom in-house backends and open-source/server frameworks such as Nakama; Metaplay differentiates with production-tested game-specific tooling and managed-cloud support.

Founding Story
Metaplay was started in Helsinki in 2019 after its founders saw that successful studios such as Supercell and Small Giant repeatedly had to build similar, highly scalable backends themselves. The initial vision was to provide a flexible, customizable and scalable alternative that gave studios the control of an in-house backend without requiring them to build all of the infrastructure and LiveOps tooling from scratch.
