Founding Story
Notion was founded by Ivan Zhao and Simon Last with the vision of building a 'LEGO of productivity tools' to empower non-technical users to create their own digital tools. After an early version built on a suboptimal tech stack nearly failed in 2015, the founders laid off their staff and moved to Kyoto, Japan, to rebuild the entire platform from scratch, focusing on a minimal set of powerful building blocks.
