pi-pod
pi pod is an open-source system for running pi coding-agent sessions in isolated remote sandboxes (“pods”) from a terminal or phone, on infrastructure the user runs. Its stated goal is to add sandboxing, native clients, organization/user/project configuration, and cross-platform access while preserving pi’s simple, customizable, provider-agnostic experience.

Products & Services
AGPL-3.0-only platform that runs pi coding-agent sessions in server-managed isolated pods on a Linux host the customer controls. It includes a REST/control plane, session gateway, lifecycle workers, Postgres-backed server, native sandbox service, and self-hosted Compose deployment.
Node.js command-line client that logs into a pi-pod server, launches and attaches to pods, manages configuration/settings, pushes and pulls project state, and supports upgrades.
Swift/SwiftUI native client included in the repository for driving pi-pod sessions from iOS; the creator said the mobile app was not yet released publicly at the October 2026 launch.
Kotlin/Compose native client included in the repository for Android; the creator said the mobile app was not yet released publicly at the October 2026 launch.
Market Position
pi pod positions itself against hosted or provider-locked coding-agent environments such as Claude Code, Codex, Factory, Devin, and Cursor by emphasizing a customizable pi harness, model-provider agnosticism, self-hosting, privacy, composable team configuration, and native clients. Its closest functional alternatives include self-managed Docker/VM-based agent setups, OpenCode/agent sandboxes, VibePod, Epho, and similar projects; pi pod differentiates around a complete pi-specific server, CLI, sandbox, and mobile-client stack.
Leadership
Founders
Evan Verma
Identified as the pi-pod creator/maintainer through the pi-pod Hacker News launch, GitHub releases under @edverma, and the site’s sign-off as Evan. His personal site says he lives in San Francisco and is CTO at Metis Technologies, an early-stage AI startup focused on the skilled-labor shortage in manufacturing.
Founding Story
Evan described starting pi pod after moving his company toward AI-native work and becoming frustrated with agentic-engineering products that lock users to one model provider, charge per-token, limit harness customization, and run on someone else’s infrastructure. As an early pi user, he wanted a composable environment for pi that could work across platforms and support teams while remaining self-hostable and privacy-preserving.

Revenue Model
The current public offering is self-hosted and open source, with no public paid pricing. The planned hosted edition is described as adding per-user hosts, metering, and billing.
