About pi pod
pi pod runs pi coding-agent sessions in isolated remote sandboxes called pods, on a server the user operates. It ships a command-line client, a server control plane, a sandbox service, and iOS and Android apps. The project is open source under AGPL-3.0, and a hosted service is listed as coming soon.
What It Is
pi pod is a self-hostable environment for running the pi coding agent in sandboxes rather than directly on a local machine. The author describes it as an effort to add agent sandboxing, native clients, role-based session sharing and surface automation around the pi harness, while keeping the experience close to using pi itself.
How It Fits Together
The CLI (pipod) and the mobile apps are clients of the server. The server owns pod lifecycle and launches each pod into a native sandbox service on the same host, where one container hosts many isolated pods. Inside a pod the server runs pi behind a small shim, and clients drive the session through the server's gateway. Identity is handled through Zitadel (OIDC), and the server stores no passwords. Running pipod in a directory launches a pod for it and attaches.
Setup Path
The README describes self-hosting on a Linux host with 8 GB of RAM, Docker with the Compose plugin, git, openssl and Node 22.19 or later. An install script generates secrets, builds and starts the stack, and a separate script adds users. The CLI is installed from npm as @pipod/cli and logs in against your server URL. Upgrades are done by pulling and re-running the upgrade script.
Current Status
The hosted pi pod service is not yet available; the site offers an email notification signup. The self-hosted edition is available now, and the latest release listed is v0.1.14.
