Market Position
PlayCanvas positions itself as an open-source, browser-first alternative to download-heavy engines such as Unity and Unreal, with a cloud Editor, real-time collaboration, web-native deployment and WebGL/WebGPU focus. It also overlaps with web 3D frameworks such as Babylon.js and Three.js, but combines a full visual Editor, hosted project workflow, publishing and team tooling rather than being only a runtime/library.
