Founding Story
Steve Krouse started Val Town in 2022 around the idea that programming should feel like editing a spreadsheet: live, fluid, reactive, and learnable. The founding poem was ‘If GitHub Gists could run / and AWS Lambda were fun’; the initial vision was a social website where short TypeScript programs could run immediately, be shared and remixed, and let people ship small websites, APIs, crons, and automations without infrastructure work. Tom MacWright joined as co-founder in January 2023.
