Val Town

Val Town is an automation and internal tools platform for programmers that lets developers and operators ship websites, automations and other tools to live URLs. The company describes its audience as "know-code" engineers who want tools that work immediately without configuring infrastructure, while keeping the full power of code.

What It Is

Val Town combines versioned code, like a Gist, with the ability to run it, like a Lambda. Each unit of code is called a val. According to the homepage, vals are deployed to the web in 100ms and are edited in a TypeScript editor with code intelligence.

On the platform you can create HTTP APIs, schedule crons, receive emails and send email to yourself. Data can be persisted using a built-in SQLite database and S3-style blob storage.

Working with AI agents

The homepage promotes using AI to write code, including an in-product assistant shown in screenshots, or connecting an external agent through the Val Town MCP server. Setup guides are listed for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. The site markets instant deployments both for developers and for their agents.

Mission and background

Val Town states its mission as end-user programming, pursued through what it calls end-programmer programming. It says it builds tooling around JavaScript so that programming feels more like editing a spreadsheet than using an IDE. The About page lists Steve Krouse as CEO and co-founder and Tom MacWright as CTO and co-founder, and says the company is funded by Dan Levine at Accel.
