Market Position
Vercel positions itself as the leading Frontend Cloud and AI Cloud platform, differentiating from competitors like Netlify, AWS Amplify, Render, Heroku, DigitalOcean App Platform, and Firebase Hosting through its tight integration with Next.js (which it maintains), superior developer experience, AI-native infrastructure, and focus on performance and simplicity. Key differentiators include zero-config deployments, framework-defined infrastructure, advanced AI capabilities (v0, AI SDK, AI Gateway), and the ecosystem built around Next.js which powers major AI products like Grok, Claude, and Cursor. Vercel emphasizes 'deploy once, deliver everywhere' with global edge network infrastructure.

Founding Story
Founded in 2015 as ZEIT by Guillermo Rauch, Tony Kovanen, and Naoyuki Kanezawa. The founding team had previously worked together on Socket.IO and at Automattic. The company was created to make cloud deployment simple, global, and real-time, focusing on providing developers with a seamless deployment experience. The initial vision centered on creating infrastructure that would enable developers to deploy and scale web applications effortlessly. In April 2020, the company rebranded from ZEIT to Vercel.
